Why it lands
Everyone turns up in the first fortnight. The casseroles arrive, the grandparents visit, and then around week five it all stops at exactly the moment the novelty wears off and the exhaustion sets in. That gap is well known to anyone who has had a baby and invisible to everyone who hasn't. Turning up late is not a failure of timing; it is the whole trick.
How
Leave a note rather than knocking — a sleeping baby makes a doorbell a hostile act. Say who you are, which house you're in, and offer one specific thing: “I'm at number 12. If you ever want an hour where someone else holds the baby, or just milk left on the step, text me.” Include your number. Then actually answer it.
