Check whether someone is on a social tariff

Discounted broadband, water and energy tariffs exist for low-income households and take-up is tiny.

Why it lands

Social tariffs are real, substantial and almost unadvertised — providers are not incentivised to promote them, and eligibility is rarely obvious. Most households who qualify are not on one. The barrier is purely informational: people do not know the tariff exists, do not know they qualify, and would not think to ask. One conversation can cut a household bill by half.

How

Check whether they receive any qualifying benefit, then look up their specific provider's scheme — each is different and none are on the front page. Ring the provider with them; the switch is usually one call and applies immediately.
