Help with the deposit, not the rent

A one-off lump unlocks a situation. Ongoing help postpones one, and is far harder to stop.

Why it lands

Recurring financial help creates dependence in both directions — the giver cannot stop without causing a crisis, and the receiver cannot plan around something that might end. A single payment against a specific barrier — a deposit, a course fee, a car repair that is costing someone their job — changes a situation permanently and then ends cleanly. It is also far easier to say yes to.

How

Ask what the specific blocking amount is rather than offering an open figure. Pay it directly to the landlord, garage or college. Be explicit that it is one-off, so nobody is waiting to find out.
