Give the good version away, not the worn-out one
Charity shops and refuges throw away an enormous amount of what is donated because it was not really a gift.

Why it lands
A great deal of donation is disposal with a better feeling attached — the stained coat, the appliance that half works, the clothes nobody would wear. Sorting and dumping it costs charities real money and staff time, so a bad donation is worse than none. Giving the thing you would still happily use is a different act entirely, and it is the one that actually helps.

Apply one test: would you give this to a friend? If not, recycle it instead. Wash it, check it works, and include the cable, the manual and all the pieces. Ask what they actually want — refuges often need new underwear and toiletries, not clothes.
