Hold the lift for whoever is carrying something

Cleaners, porters and delivery staff with loaded trolleys wait for lifts far longer than anyone with free hands.

Why it lands

A person pushing a trolley cannot catch a closing door, cannot take the stairs, and is usually on a timed round. Everyone else in the building can do all three. The result is that the people with the heaviest loads wait the longest, several times a day, in a building full of people who could have held the door and did not notice there was anything to notice.

How

Hold the door and step aside rather than squeezing in beside them — a loaded trolley needs the whole lift. If it is full, let them have the next one and take the stairs. Do not offer to help push unless asked; many are trained not to let you.
