Why it lands

Visible engagement is distributed extremely unevenly, and the experience of posting into silence is a well-known reason people stop making things publicly. The cost of the first reply is almost nothing to you and large to them — it converts a post that felt like a mistake into a conversation. Later replies matter much less, which is why the first one is worth going out of your way for.

How

Say something specific about the thing rather than a generic encouragement, which reads as pity. Ask a question, which gives them something to do next. Doing it for someone with a small audience is where it counts.
