Offer to take the photo for the group

Someone is always missing from the picture, and it is usually the person who organized the trip.

Why it lands

In every group photographing itself, one person is behind the camera — and in family photographs that person is disproportionately a mother, absent from the entire visual record of a decade. Offering means the whole group is in it. It takes fifteen seconds and produces an object that will still exist in forty years, which is an unusually good ratio.

How

Offer rather than waiting to be asked. Take several, including one landscape and one portrait, and one just after they think you have finished — that is reliably the best one. Show them before you hand the phone back.

Nobody has marked this one yet. You could be the first.
