Community organizations do not fail for lack of ideas; they fail because the treasurer resigned and nobody replaced them. The unglamorous roles — accounts, insurance, safeguarding, the key-holder — are the load-bearing ones, and they are chronically unfilled because they carry responsibility and no status. Taking one is worth more than any amount of enthusiasm at the meeting.

Ask the chair what they cannot fill rather than what you might enjoy. Commit to a defined term so it does not become permanent by default. Write down how you do it, so the next person inherits a process rather than a mystery.
