Why it lands
Mentoring is mostly done without feedback: you give advice, the person leaves, and you never learn whether any of it took. Years later the sentence they said in passing is still governing how you run a meeting, and they have no idea. The delay is what makes it powerful — it is proof the thing survived, which is exactly the evidence people doing that work never get.
How
Name the specific thing and when. “You told me in 2019 to write the summary before the analysis. I have done it that way ever since and it has never once been wrong.” Do not ask for anything in the same message; a request turns it into networking.
Answer if you want. It changes which ideas are shown first.
