Buy the last of it at the end of market day

Unsold fresh produce at four o'clock is a loss the trader eats. Buying it is a favor disguised as a bargain.

Why it lands

Market traders price the last hour to clear stock because the alternative is throwing it away, and most people read the discount purely as luck. It is also the point in the day when a single customer taking the remainder is the difference between a profitable stall and a wasted one. Turning up deliberately at the end converts your shopping into support without either side having to acknowledge it.

How

Go in the last hour and ask what they want rid of rather than picking over the best of it. Take the mixed box. Do not haggle at that point — the price is already doing the work — and say you will be back next week, then be.
