Be the one who keeps the group chat going
Group chats die when everyone waits for someone else to post. Somebody has to be willing to look keen.

Why it lands
Shared spaces have a maintenance cost that is paid by one or two people who post into silence and risk seeming needy. When they stop, the group ends — usually without anyone noticing for months, at which point restarting is too awkward. That maintenance is the infrastructure of a friendship group and it is almost entirely invisible to everyone benefiting from it.
How
Post things that are easy to respond to — a photo, a question, a memory — rather than asking how everyone is. Accept that most posts get no reply. Occasionally message someone individually about something they said, which is what keeps the group from becoming a broadcast.
