Why it lands
The cheaper option is cheaper partly through scale and partly through cost-shifting — lower wages, no local employment, profit leaving the area. The gap on a weekly shop is often a couple of pounds, which is trivial to one household and existential to a shop with three staff. Nobody is obliged to make this trade, but most people have never considered it as a choice at all.
How
Pick one category to move — bread, vegetables, coffee — rather than trying to change everything. Go weekly so you become a predictable customer, which is what they can actually plan against. Tell them why you come, once.
