Write down the thing only you know

Every job has undocumented knowledge living in one head. Writing it down is a gift to a person you will never meet.

The BeingKind editorsPublished How this is written

Why it lands

Institutional knowledge leaves with people and the cost lands on whoever inherits the job — usually someone new, with nobody to ask, discovering by failure that the report breaks if you run it before Tuesday. Writing it down is unrewarded, invisible, and the single most useful thing most people could leave behind. Nobody will ever thank you, because the people it helps will not know it was ever hard.

How

Pick the one thing you get asked about most and write it where the next person will actually look — the repo, the shared drive, wherever the team already goes. Include the failure modes, not just the happy path. Half an hour on the ugly undocumented thing beats a week of tidy notes on the obvious parts.

Nobody has marked this one yet. You could be the first.
