Leave something out for the refuse crew at Christmas

The crew that has taken your rubbish every week for a year passes your house in the dark in December.

Why it lands

Refuse collection is one of the few services where the same small team comes to your specific house repeatedly for years and is never seen. The work is physically punishing, starts before dawn and is noticed only when it fails. December is when this was traditionally acknowledged and when it has largely stopped being, which is precisely what makes doing it register.

How

A box of sealed snacks or a card taped to the bin lid the night before, with “For the crew — thank you for this year” on it. Many councils forbid cash, so do not leave money. Put it where it is obviously for them and not rubbish.
